Description

Growth Form: Deciduous or evergreen shrubs.

Stems: Stems usually prostrate, sometimes erect.

Roots:

Leaves: Leaves compound (odd-pinnate). Alternate. Leaflets somewhat coriaceous. Margins entire. Petiolate. Stipules small, linear.

Flowers: Flowers in terminal, cymose or corymbose inflorescences. Flowers bisexual (perfect) or sometimes unisexual (and then plants andromonoecious). Calyx lobes 5, acute and persistent. Corolla of 5 petals, oblong–ovate. Stamens 15–20. Ovary inferior, 2–5-carpellate; ovules 1 per cell; styles 5, distinct; stigmas thickened and truncate.

Fruit: Pome with persistent sepals; endocarps 5; stony. Seeds 1 per endocarp; somewhat compressed.
